Fundraiser for Victims of Pakistan Flooding
Partnering with Islamic Relief, we will be hosting a fundraiser to help the victims of Pakistan's recent devastating flooding that has affected millions in the country.
Ustadh Moutasem Atiya of Al Madina Institute has been actively involved in the Metropolitan
DC communities through classes, speaking engagements, and Friday khutbahs on a regular basis
for the past 10 years. He has studied the Islamic sciences from some of the luminaries of our
time, Shaykh Mohsen An-Najjar, Shaykh Mokhtar Maghraoui in particular.
Dr. Hassan Lachheb is the founder and president of Tayseer Seminary. He holds a Ph.D in Religious Studies from the University of Indiana, Bloomington, with a focus on theory of religion and Islamic studies. His research is focused on the intellectual history and religiosity of the Muslims in the Maghreb and Andalus. Dr. Lachheb completed his M.A. in Islamic Theology, Islamic Legal Theory, and Maliki Jurisprudence at Dar al-Hadith al-Hassaniyyah for Higher Islamic Studies in Rabat, Morocco with honors in 2000.
Mona Hassan is Associate Professor of Islamic Studies History at Duke University in the departments of History and Religious Studies. She obtained her Ph.D. from Princeton University and specializes in global Islamic history. Dr. Hassan’s research and publications analyze the intersections of religion, culture, gender, and politics. Her first book Longing for the
Lost Caliphate: A Transregional History (Princeton University Press, 2017) received the
American Academy of Religion 2017 Award for Excellence in the Study of Religion in the
category of Historical Studies.
Ustadha Zaynab has served as a member of the core faculty of Tayseer Seminary and women’s scholar-in-residence since 2014. Originally from Atlanta, Ustadha Zaynab relocated to Knoxville, TN to take on this pioneering role for a Muslim community. She is a full-time instructor at Tayseer Seminary. She also serves as an adjunct instructor at several distinguished institutions, including Boston Islamic Seminary, Rabata, and Jannah Institute.
Ustadh Nadeem Siddiqi grew up in Knoxville where he has lived since 1977. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Economics in 2002 and from Tayseer Seminary in 2016 in its first class. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Muslim Community of Knoxville, Annoor Academy of Knoxville, Tayseer Seminary, and the Association of Muslim Chaplains. He serves as adjunct faculty for Tayseer Seminary where he teaches a course in community activism.
Dr. Khalid Shahu earned his Ph.D. in Sociology of Language, from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (GC-CUNY). He has served
as an Assistant Professor of Arabic with the Asian Studies Department at UNC-CHAPEL HILL (2011-2020). Dr. Shahu is the founder of Apex Mosque, in North Carolina, for which he served as an Imam from 2010-2020. As the Imam of the Muslim Community of Knoxville (MCK), Dr. Shahu aims at raising a Prophetic Community that is spiritually oriented, well-organized, closely united and civically engaged in the American Society.
Imam Ossama Bahloul, Ph.D., the Resident Scholar of the Islamic Center of Nashville, comes to Nashville with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Imam Ossama is a graduate of the renowned Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, where he earned his BA in Islamic Studies, as well as his Master’s degree and ultimately his Ph.D. Dr. Bahloul completed his Ph.D. in Comparative Religions. His thesis titled Critique of Christian Issues within Will Durant’s “The Story of Civilization” is widely acclaimed.
Mawlana Abdul-Hakim Dickenson, has a Bachelor of Arts from the Institute of Islamic Education Elgin, IL. He is Committed to enhancing understanding through innovative teaching methods and mentorship. He taught at the Muslim Association of Pittsburgh Gibsonia, and currently, he teaches at the Qur’an Center, in Knoxville, TN.
Anwar Arafat is an Imam for the Islamic Association of Greater Memphis. In Memphis since 2014, he moved here from Salt Lake City, UT, where he was born and raised, and served as an imam for several years. Arafat has traveled and lived overseas, completing his religious education locally and abroad, earning a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies, and most recently finishing a master’s degree in Islamic Leadership at the Islamic Seminary of America (TISA) in Dallas, Texas.
Abu Ahmad Harithi is one of the founders of the Muslim Community of Knoxville and Annoor Academy. He is committed to serving and teaching the community through lecturesand jumu’ahs.
Dr. Michael Abdullah Dann joined the faculty of Tayseer Seminary in 2020. He earned his Ph.D. in Religion at Princeton University in 2015, and his B.A. in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2006. Dr. Dann studied the traditional Islamic sciences in Egypt with scholars from Al-Azhar University and in Morocco at Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University. Prior to joining the faculty at Tayseer, he served as an Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Imam Rafiq Mahdi, originally named William E. Henderson II, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and later converted to Islam. He became active in the Muslim community, eventually settling in Inkster, Michigan, and helping to
establish Masjid Jase Bell Joshua. Mahdi converted to Islam under the guidance of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed and later served in a leadership capacity for ICNA Relief USA.
Abdul-Adam, originally from Morocco, lives with his beautiful family in Boston, MA. He specializes in Nasheed and Amdah (Praise) of the Beloved Prophet (peace be upon him). He toured many US States to share his talented Madeeh.

Yes. Registration is required for all participants. There are a limited number of seats so we encourage everyone to sign up as soon as possible.
To help cover our expenses including honorariums, workshop materials, and refreshments, we are charging a nominal fee of $45 per person. Financial aid is available upon request at admin@muslimknoxville.org.
We welcome your children at this event. Childcare will be provided at limited times throughout the event.
