Become a Member of MCK

Since its founding in the 1980s, Muslim Community of Knoxville (MCK)’s vision has been to raise a Prophetic community. Now you can support and empower MCK’s vision and mission with a yearly membership. By signing up, you help us create better programming and activities, provide more assistance, and sustain our team’s efforts for building the future of MCK.

The deadline to register for 2023-2024 membership year is November 7, 2023.

Member Types

We have Individual, Family, and Student memberships.

  • Individual: $40 yearly fee, 18 years and older
  • Family: $60 yearly fee, Parents/Guardians. Children 18 and older must fill out their own form and pay their own fees.
  • Student: $20 yearly fee. Qualifying individuals attending higher education institutions (i.e. College, University, High School) who have been students for at least the past 6 months.

Member Criteria

  • Muslim (must have testified to the Muslim creed)
  • Agree to obey the MCK bylaws
  • Resident of Knoxville area or surrounding 8 counties
  • Willing to participate in MCK activities
  • 18 years or older
  • Complete membership application yearly

For Existing Members

Existing members who registered last year or who have donated can renew their memberships in the following ways:

You must still qualify for all membership criteria including residency requirements, faith, bylaws, and activity participation.

Past registrants: Renew your membership payment OR continue donating based on requirements below:

  • Past donors to MCK:
    • Monthly donation of $30/month for at least six months
    • One-time donation exceeding $180 in a year

Remember: To qualify, all member donations (monthly or one-time) must be from approved MCK sources like ACH/Direct Deposit, Check, Donorbox, Stripe, Paypal, Square or Cash. Donations given for zakat, sadaqa, or affiliate donations to other orgs like Tayseer, AAK, etc do not qualify.

Additional Criteria Includes:

  • Spouses: Spouses of members who initially registered as a family membership or met donation requirements are automatically members as well.
  • Children/Dependents: Family membership covers husband and wife only. Children older than 18 must apply individually.
  • Past board members: You receive an automatic 3 year membership after serving a 3 year board term

Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be to be a member?

Anyone over the age of 18 can be a member of MCK.

Do you provide financial aid for the membership fee?

Your membership payment serves to support MCK. We encourage you make your payment and consider it as a sadaqah for the masjid.

However, if you can’t make it, don’t let that stop you from becoming a member of our beautiful community! You can still complete the registration without payment and become a member.

Are non-Muslims allowed to register as members?

All members are required to declare they are of Muslim faith and are willing to become a member of the Muslim Community of Knoxville.

If I become a member, what benefits do I receive?

All members gain the ability to vote in Shura elections for the MCK board. They also gain eligibility for serving on the Shura board provided they meet the qualifications.

To qualify to vote, individuals must be a resident of the greater Knoxville area for at least 90 days before the election date.

Shura board members are nominated by the community to the Election Board. To be eligible for serving on the Shura board, individuals must be a resident of the greater Knoxville area for at least 1 year before the election date.
