If you would like to participate, please note that there is a pre-selection process that must be completed before the main event. The pre-selection process will take place on Sunday, April 20th at 11:30 am at Annoor Academy. To register for the pre-selection process, please follow these steps:
1. Choose your age bracket: Level 1 (7-11 years), Level 2 (12-14 years), Level 3 (15-17 years).
2. Students must be between 7 to 17 years of age.
3. Select a surah or part of it (of your choice) to share with the judging committee.
4. The final date to register is Wednesday, April 16th.
On Sunday, April 20, 2025, join us to recite for 2-3 minutes to help the judging committee decide if you qualify to participate in Al-Mizmaar. Recitation will be assessed based on quality of memorization, rules of tajweed, and voice.
Participants in the selection process will be reviewed on first come, first serve basis.

On Saturday, April 26th, we invite you to join us at Annoor Academy Gym in Knoxville, TN for an enlightening conference on the Qur’an. This one-day event will be an opportunity for us to come together as a community to reflect on the blessings and mercy present in the words of Allah.
Throughout the conference, we will have inspiring talks and beautiful recitations of the Qur’an, as well as workshops on Tajwid and live scholarly reflections. Additionally, we will be offering a series of 40 Hadith that reveal the blessings of the Qur’an.
We also invite you to participate in our 4th Annual Al-Mizmaar (flute) competition, as we will be hosting our young Qaris of Knoxville on stage!
As we come together to explore the depth of the Qur’an, we hope to strengthen our connection to Allah and unlock the gems of revelation that it holds. May Allah guide us on this journey.

Imam Khalid Shahu is the Imam of Muslim Community of Knoxville. His background includes multiple M.A.s and a Ph.D. in Sociology of Language from GC-CUNY. Inspired by the teachings of Imam Yassine, he is diligently working on the raising of a Prophetic Community that can serve as a model for the Muslim Community, not only in the Knoxville Area, but also in other parts of the US.
Ustadha Zaynab Ansari has served as a member of the full-time faculty of Tayseer Seminary since its inception in 2014 when she joined the Muslim Community of Knoxville in the pioneering role of women’s scholar-in-residence, one of the first women to serve in such a capacity in an Islamic institution in North America.
Dr. Dann studied the traditional Islamic sciences in Egypt with scholars from Al-Azhar University and in Morocco at Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University. He earned his Ph.D. in Religion at Princeton University in 2015, and his B.A. in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2006. He is currently a faculty member of Tayseer Seminary.
Imam Rafiq Mahdi, born as William E. Henderson II in Knoxville, Tennessee, underwent a profound transformation from his Christian upbringing to Islam at the age of 23. His thirst for knowledge led him to The Islamic University of Madinah, where he earned a diploma in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies.
Imam Mahdi is a co-founder of the Muslim Community of Knoxville, assuming leadership roles as its first Imam and vice president. He served as Imam in various communities, including Miami, FL, FT. Lauderdale, FL, and Knoxville, TN. Currently, Imam Mahdi serves as the Director of Disaster Relief Services and Outreach for ICNA Relief USA.
Shaykh Àbdul’Hakīm Dickenson is an on-going student of Shaykh Amin since 2008. He accepted Islām 26+ years ago. Since then he has traveled to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, U.A.E, and Saudi Arabia. After being blessed with a 9 year formal education in Islamic Ùlūm, he was granted permission by his teachers to teach various ùlūm of Islam. He has served as an Imām in NYC, NJ, and Chicagoland for over 15 years and he is currently a lecturer at Darul Qasim Knoxville.
Sh. Abdelhamid Askam is a Moroccan Qari and reciter. He currently serves as an Imam at the Islamic Center of Paterson (ICP), in New Jersey for many years, where he also supervises the Qur’an Program (Tajweed and Hifz).
Qari Adeeb Bari is from Irving, TX where he completed his Hifdh under his Shaykh, Qari Abdelkarim Edghouch, & received Ijazah from him. He is also a student of Shaykh Saad Hasanin. Qari Adeeb has won many competitions nationally & internationally.
Dr. Hassan Lachheb is the founder and president of Tayseer Seminary. He holds a Ph.D in Religious Studies from the University of Indiana, Bloomington, with a focus on theory of religion and Islamic studies. His research is focused on the intellectual history and religiosity of the Muslims in the Maghreb and Andalus.
Dr. Lachheb completed his M.A. in Islamic Theology, Islamic Legal Theory, and Maliki Jurisprudence at Dar al-Hadith al-Hassaniyyah for Higher Islamic Studies in Rabat, Morocco with honors in 2000. In addition, he completed his B.A. with distinction in Arabic Language and Literature at Mohamed V University in Rabat.
He also attended the Madrasa of Shaykh Abdullah al-Talidi in Tangier, Morocco where he extensively studied several disciplines including Principles of Jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh), Arabic Grammar, Philology, and Literature. He has also received many ijazaat (licenses to teach) from prominent scholars in Hadith, Comparative Jurisprudence (fiqh), and the Sciences of Qur’an. He has studied under several of the foremost Islamic scholars in Morocco.
Dr. Lachheb is a resident scholar of the Muslim Community of Knoxville.
Amal Kassir is a Syrian American poet, born and raised in Denver Colorado to an Arab father and an American convert mother. She has performed & taught in 13 countries and cities all over, in venues ranging from orphanages and refugee camps to youth prisons. At the University of Colorado Denver, she designed her own undergraduate major, titled Community Programming in Social Psychology, where she has been able to create programs for a range of causes and people. She is the founder of House of Amal, a global writing community that sits at the intersection of creativity, introspection and literature. She is also the founder of the Mental Wellness Program for Muslim Youth for Positive Impact in Colorado, working to create access and dismantle the stigma around mental health in the Muslim Community. Her first book, Scud Missile Blues, came out 2024 with 100% of proceeds to Syrian children afflicted by war.
She is currently a youth mentor, a writing teacher, a farmer and a mother.

Yes. Registration is required for all participants. There are a limited number of seats so we encourage everyone to sign up as soon as possible. Tickets purchased prior to event will be discounted, but tickets the day of the event will be full price $45 per person.
To help cover our expenses including honorariums, workshop materials, and refreshments, we are charging a nominal fee of $45 per person. Financial aid is available upon request at admin@muslimknoxville.org.
